Saint
St. Dionysius the Areopagite
Dionysius was a member of the Areopagus, the high court of Athens. When St. Paul preached there about the “unknown god,” Dionysius believed (Acts 17:34). Tradition says he became the first bishop of Athens and witnessed the Dormition of the Theotokos. Deep writings on the divine names and the heavenly hierarchy were later published under his name. He is the patron saint of Athens.
