St. Nektarios of Aegina
Anastasios Kephalas was a poor boy from Thrace who worked as a shop boy in Constantinople and later became a monk on Chios. In Alexandria he was made Metropolitan of Pentapolis, but jealous clergy slandered him, and he was dismissed without a hearing. He accepted it in silence, served as a humble preacher, and then ran a school for priests in Athens. In 1904 he founded a convent on Aegina. He died in 1920 in the charity ward of a hospital, and when his sweater was laid on a paralysed man in the next bed, the man got up and walked.
